My Role

I was sub-contracted to Moneycorp through my employer Futurice. My role was to push innvotative and fresh ideas for how they could develop a 2.0 version of their online web platform. Daily tasks included:

  • Facilitating deep dive sessions with the product and tech team
  • Sketching and wireframing to produce ideas
  • UI Designs and building prototypes to get a feel for a feature
  • Conducting user testing and different types of user research
  • To educate and persuade difficult stakeholders the process of design and why it is so important.

Problem Statement

Problem statement

The original Moneycorp web platform had never had any design input and new features just constantly being added on top over the years due to customers demands. This led to it becoming competely overwhelming. In particular the transactions feature.

1
To work with key stakeholders to understand which of all the features inside transactions was still needed
2
To redesign this feature to fit within a design system that I was producing as part of the global redesign.
3
To validate my decision based on customer feedback
4
To increase retention and usage within this feature

Discovery

To begin with I worked closely with the customer service team to create the different types of personas which would use this feature/product

From the personas, myself and the product team create a collection of key customer needs - this would help define which features were actually needed.

TO BE ABLE TO VIEW remaining FUNDS

“For when I have made a draw down on a deal, I need to be able to see my remaining funds”

TO BE ABLE TO SEARCH BY REFERENCE

“I want to see my internal reference code/ID”

TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD A STATEMENT

“I need to be able to download a CSV and PDF version for my own personal auditing.”

Filtering by attributes

“ I want to be able to filter by date and currency”

Competitor Benchmarking

Competitor benchmarking

Moneycorp has many credible competitors including Revolt and Western Union. But for the transactions feature I found a lot of good benchmarking from bank web apps who all have statements. This helped my gain inspiration for UI and motion design.

The Process

The Process

Below is the initial steps taken to produce this feature, this ran parallel to the research phase also. As all this work was still at the discovery stage, therefore it allowed me to make quick changes if needed based on feedback from the research.

1
USER FLOW DIAGRAM

At first I always like to produce a rough user diagram, this is likely to change as the project goes on but it’s a good base to design from.

Sketchs

Here is a some rough sketches I produced in a sketching session myself and the design team took place in.

Below are some wireframes I produced in the early stages of this feature, these transformed as the feature went on but was good to kick start talks

Design system

Myself and other members of the design team created a design system which would be used across the platform. This was also applied when producing final UI designs for transactions.

FINAL UI DESIGNS

Below is one of the screens from the final Transactions UI designs. It highlights all the key changes made as per the initial research and customer needs.

Learnings

Learnings

Myself and other members of the design team also conducted internal and external user testing. We also sent out a BETA version of the product to a set of users. All of which the feedback was positive.
